Biography:

Dr. Janet Alvarez Gonzalez is an award-winning director, executive producer, reporter, media personality, and marketing expert with over 19 years of experience across diverse sectors of the media industry. Born on February 7, 1965, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, she began her career in the late 1980s as a director, producer, and political reporter for prominent U.S. television and radio networks, including PBS, NPR, FOX, and Jay Sears News Services. During her career, she has produced and interviewed key global figures such as Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, Lt. Col. Oliver North, U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Virginia Governor George Allen, and Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro García Padilla, among many others. Her work has aired on major platforms like ABC, NBC, Telemundo, WAPA TV, Teletica, Bolivision, Univision, PBS, Pentagon Network, Radio Puerto Rico, and National Radio Network. Dr. Alvarez Gonzalez holds a robust academic background. She studied Editing and Post-Production at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid, Spain, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master’s in Educational Media and Television from Virginia State University and went on to complete a Doctorate in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing, also Summa Cum Laude, from Argosy University. She holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in International Business from Argosy University, graduating with the same honors. In 2003, Dr. Alvarez Gonzalez co-wrote, produced, and starred in Latin Comedy, a social satire exploring how media manipulates Hispanic communities. The film featured the legendary Cuban comedian Leopoldo “Pucho” Fernandez, known for his roles as Tres Patines and Machito Pichon. In addition to her media and entertainment career, Dr. Alvarez Gonzalez has had distinguished service in the U.S. military. She was appointed Public Affairs Officer with the rank of Captain in the Puerto Rico National Guard and later served as a Major in the Texas State Guard, where she received the Medal of Merit for her exceptional service. She received the Latin Golden Award for Achievement in Media Production from the Foreign Press Association in 2015 for hosting the show Buenos Dias Mi Amor. In 2019, she was honored with the Maya Award in Cinematography by the Republic of Bolivia. Throughout her career, Dr. Alvarez Gonzalez has held key leadership roles. She is currently the Executive Producer at Planet Films.
